Going on an adventure can sound like a lot of fun, which it is, but you still have to be careful and
stay prepared for emergencies. Having emergency gear in your backpack will not just save your life.
Emergency equipment will also help you stay safe and secure in the wilderness or any other place you
go hiking. Here are the five basic emergency gears that you must have for backpacking.

1. First-Aid Kit

While this may sound like it is just common sense, many people forget to take a basic first-aid kit with
them. You should carry first-aid supplies for injuries. According to backpacking.net, you should
particularly carry adhesive Band-Aids and sterilized bandages; these will be very handy for minor injuries
and can stave off infection.

2. Compass

You should carry a compass at all times, especially in the back country where you are most liable to lose
a sense of direction. Outdoorplaces.com also highlights the importance of understanding how to
use it. If you do not know how to use a compass, take classes in using one and learn how to use it in the
field.

3. Water

There is no denying the importance of fresh water—always carry plenty of it. If you are not taking
enough water along, you should always treat the water you draw from public sources. Make sure you
have a water filter, purifier, chemical tablets, or a stove to boil the water before drinking it.

4. Whistles

The sound whistles make travels much further than voices can in an emergency situation. Carry a good
whistle with you while you are backpacking to ensure that you have a means to alert others to your
presence if you are in danger. You can also use it to communicate with others in your group.

5. Quick Stove and Fire Starter

By carrying a stove, you can easily boil water for safe consumption; you can also cook meals. It is an
indispensable utility if you are looking for healthy, nutritious food while out on an adventure. Fire
starters are especially helpful for quickly starting a fire. They are also great for igniting wet wood.

As you can see, having the above items with you when you go backpacking will help you immensely in
emergency situations. They will help save your life, guide you in the right direction, alert others to your
location, and stay warm, among other things if danger ever befalls you.

Bored of holidaying in the same old places? Wishing for a glamorous adventure, beautiful sights and international travel? Consider relaxing and unwinding aboard your own luxurious chartered boat.
SMELL THE SEA AIR
Can you imagine anything more invigorating than being the captain of your own yacht? Feel renewed by the wind in your hair and the sun warming your skin. Explore incredible destinations: meet the locals, taste the food and see the sights. Perhaps you would like to fill your days with snorkelling or diving in blue waters teaming with marine life, a bit of kayaking, or even fishing? Alternatively you could always just relax on deck with a good book. This is a holiday you will never forget and it is designed around what you want to do and when.
HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HOLIDAY
Choose a reputable company, your holiday is important and you deserve a 5 star service from beginning to end. There are a variety of boat options depending on how many people you will have on board and whether you would prefer a quieter sailing charter on a monohull yacht or catamaran; or if you prefer the exhilaration of a powerboat. Also not every company will supply boats to every destination so choose the one which best suits your needs. The Moorings have been providing charter boat holidays since 1969 and are a world leader. They offer charters in 27 amazing destinations within the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Sea of Cortez, Pacific Northwest, South Pacific and Indian Ocean and they have the largest fleet of charter catamarans in the world.
EXPERIENCE
If you have no boating experience you can book a charter which includes a captain and why not include a chef too and completely relax and unwind while the yacht takes you where you want to go in the most exhilarating fashion. Or if you want to learn or just brush up your skills as a sailor consider signing up for a lesson or a Learn to Sail holiday and find your sea legs. If you have only some experience at sea you may still be qualified to charter a vessel in many countries try completing an online Sailboat CV which will tell you where you can sail and what sized yacht you are qualified to captain. If you are no stranger to captaining then you can book a bareboat yacht charter and seek out adventure on a beautiful luxury boat.
TIME TOGETHER
There is nothing like a charter yacht holiday for making the best memories and bringing people closer together. There is so much to do and yet so much quality time to spend together. It is a romantic getaway for a couple spending your days swimming and tanning in exotic waters and having dinner under the stars. Groups of friends travelling and seeing the sights or just relaxing so far away from their regular lives can’t help but have a great time in each other’s company. Families find the adventure and fun of a chartered yacht holiday brings them closer together and there are a million happy memories to be made.
NO COMPARISON
Spending time aboard a chartered yacht is one of the most exhilarating and liberating holidays available. You will feel more relaxed the moment you head out into the water and how could your daily worries not melt away in such beautiful locations? Whether quietly swaying as the waves lap the sides of your boat or charging through the ocean at top speeds, this is the holiday for you and with so many locations available it could be for many years to come.

When the time comes to go on a vacation, some families do not know what to do. People may assume that their options are few, and they may fail to find something that everybody will enjoy. How can your family invest in a vacation and save money in the long run? The information below may help.

Purchase Vacation Items and Store Them

If your family wishes to invest in future vacations, it is a terrific idea to stock your home with items appropriate for trips. A local store may have a sale on sunscreen or shampoo; if this is the case, you may wish to purchase an item and store it in an area that is easy to find. When the time comes to pack for a vacation, you will already have several items around the house. This will reduce your family’s need to spend money come vacation time.

Invest In a Timeshare

Though some people do not consider timeshares when they plan a vacation, it is an option that definitely deserves some thought. Timeshares allow a family to use a house or condominium during certain months of the year. If your family plans to have a vacation in an area near the timeshare home, it is possible to save money. Your family will not have to invest in hotel rooms or worry about how to find and serve meals. Typical worries that are associated with vacations may be avoided; your family can instead focus on what is important.

Use Frequent Flyer Miles to Save Time and Money

If you go on frequent trips, it may be possible to receive travel rewards. One great idea is to apply for a special travel rewards credit card that will allow you to obtain free frequent flyer miles. These miles will allow you to get plane tickets for free; however, you are only able to redeem the amount of frequent flyer miles you have, and flights are not always available. It may be possible to get tickets for each member of the family when enough free miles accumulate. Frequent flyer miles also allow a family to plan trips without worrying about what months of the year are the most popular.

Invest In a Motor Home

Motor homes are an excellent option for people who wish to travel on the road. They may not want to spend time on an airplane, and this allows a family to achieve privacy and a sense of fun and adventure. Class B motorhomes are advantageous for weekend trips. These sizable vehicles come with modern conveniences, such as a kitchen and toilet. They are also easier to drive than larger motor homes, and people may bring parts of their home along on the trip. Though timeshares and frequent flyer miles are convenient, these options are not always available.

A family of any size has many options available for destination vacations. However, some families are unsure about what would work best. The information above may help a family look over options and find something appropriate. With time and patience, any group of people can save money and have fun.

Traveling is fun, exciting and educational, especially if you plan on experiencing the culture of the country or area you visit – and on $50 a day travel budget, you can’t help but come into contact with the local life of whatever place you are traveling to.

Now, while it may be impossible to stick to this budget when traveling overseas; flights will cost more than $50 a day, you can certainly stick to your budget once you arrive in your destination. The following are 7 ways to keep your travel expenses as low as possible to help you stick to your budget.

1- Lodgings

Before setting out on your vacation, look into your lodging options. If you want to keep your travel expenses down to $50 a day then you want to look for neighborhood hostels or even a free lodging option. Visit sites like Couch Surfing to find friendly neighbors in the area with an extra couch or bed they will let you stay on for free.

2 – Entertainment

Decide to go on vacation in the off season so you can get entertainment discounts. Look for free tours or museums. Most museums have a free-entrance day. Look up the museums in the area for these days and decide to visit on one of these free days.

3 – Food

One of the best ways to get to know any destination is by experiencing the food. Avoid the high end restaurants in the tourist sections and instead inquire about local street food and vending carts. This is the cheapest way to grab a bite and it’s a great way to meet a few locals too.

4 – Transportation

When visiting shopping areas, museums or landmarks that are all centrally located (downtown) and if you are in a large metropolitan city you want to stick with public transportation as much as possible. Besides, public transportation can be an interesting experience to, allowing you to see all the colorful people that live in the place you are visiting.

However not all cities have a subway, train or reliable public transportation system. In these cases you may want to rent a car. However, you want to choose the car rental company carefully, so you get the best deal. Alamo car rental offers some of the cheapest car rental deals in the nation. Look for the best options before leaving for your destination. Often you can get better deals if you plan ahead, or rent a car over a particular weekend.

5 – City Attractions

There are many city attractions that are completely free. Some you can see simply by taking a walk in the area. Downtown areas are full of architectural monuments, landmarks and buildings you can enjoy. If you travel out of the downtown area then all you have to do is jump into your car and visit the beautiful parks and lakes in the area. Most of these are free, or in some cases may have a very nominal entrance fee cost.

Traveling on a budget takes a certain mindset, and some planning ahead. Take lunch bags when visiting natural monuments or parks. Talk to the locals, walk around and enjoy the great outdoors. Go with the intentions of staying away from the high priced hotel and restaurant.

Not all of us are lucky, or perhaps clever enough to save for regular holidays. Yet, holiday we must, if we are to experience anything outside of the daily grind of our lives. Of course, budget travel is the option, if you can wing it. We have another idea though. How about traveling for free?
1. Try An Adventure Challenge
You can either organize an adventure challenge or join an expedition to climb mountains or discover new cultures. Check out such opportunities at acrossthedivide.com, charitytreks.ca and globaladventurechallenges.com.
2. Obtain A Travel Scholarship
Try for a scholarship to study abroad at your university. The UNESCO Study Abroad Guide provides a list of scholarships opportunities in 129 countries.

3. Join The WWOOF Program
The best way to travel for free is to work your way through. The World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms program offers farm work with food, bed and board. Membership cost is $12, but the rest is free.
4. Look Out For Travel Sponsorships
Check out technological companies and equipment manufactures for travel sponsor for your product trials and write-ups. If what you offer is worth to them, you might get travel sponsorships this way.
5. Hitchhike
There are safety worries to hitchhiking, but if you have a fixed route planned, you can still wing it. Japan, Ireland and New Zealand are relatively safe for hitchhikers. Always check with other travelers before hitchhiking.
6. Smart Flying
Sign up for a credit card that offers mileage rewards and use your accumulated reward points once in a year to travel someone nice. Be sure to pay your balance every month so you don’t lose your free miles.
7. Try To Win Competitions
Signup for photography or travel writing competitions; you may get lucky and win free travel. Look for such opportunities in Wanderlust magazine and Intrepid Travel. You can apply online.
8. Become A Walk Leader
Check with hiking tour operators if they can use a walk leader to lead a walking holiday group. You must be knowledgeable, have leadership qualities and communicate well. You get meals, stay and traveling funds in return.

9. Become A Secret Shopper
Obtain a secret transportation shopper certification and find work in the travel sector. You will be provided free travel and get paid to travel to different places and expose issues and discrimination against disabled passengers.
10. Become A Medication Tester
Check with a large drug company for drug testing travel opportunities. Many companies test drugs on site, where the virulent is present, such as testing anti-malaria drugs in Africa.
11. Teach English
Obtain a TEFL certification and try for a job teaching English in non-English speaking countries. You can get to travel for free. You may even get free or cheap accommodation other than your salary.
12. Deliver A Car
Deliver someone’s car and enjoy a nice long journey for free, with your fuel and maintenance costs paid up. Check if your sponsor will pay for your motel stays and food too. Note that you must have a perfect driving record.
13. Work As A Tour Guide
Obtain tour guide certification and find work as sightseeing guides, or as long-term escort to travel groups. Travel companies are always looking for good travel guides, especially those that work well with seniors.
14. Work As A Flight Attendant
This job still gets you free travel all over the globe, if you choose to join an international line. It’s hard work, but you get to spend a night and day at foreign cities, and your accommodation is paid for.
15. Research Travel Destinations
If you are a good travel writer, sign up with a travel company as a destination researcher. You’ll have to work hard to gather facts and write short summaries, but your travel, stay and food will be free.
16. Work On A Cruise
Depending on your qualifications and skill set, you can work as a talking head, as handyman, as child counselor, as tour guide and more on a cruise. You get free stay; free food and can join day trips on ports for free.
17. Join A Sailing Crew
Take sailing courses and then offer your services for free at your local marina. Build enough experience to join the crew of a yacht delivery service, and sail around the world for free.

Even after years of travel and adventure, Teena Celis still considers Adrenalin to be the ultimate source of ‘serious fun’.

Are you a frequent traveler that wants to save some cash on your next flight? Perhaps you’re simply wanting to take a nice vacation and need to make sure that you aren’t going to blow all of your money on a ticket. In this article we’ll cover some of the ways that frequent and new flyers are saving extra cash. Going on your next business trip or vacation shouldn’t break the bank!

1.Timing

This is a tip that most travelers don’t think about before purchasing their tickets. The time (or timing!) of the trip you’re planning is crucial. If you’re taking a trip to Hawaii in the middle of the summer, the tickets are going to be a hamper on your pocket. However, if you plan your trip to Hawaii in the fall or winter seasons, then the tickets will be much cheaper than they were in the summer season. The main reason is because the amount of people that taking vacations and getaway trips during the summer is astronomical. Therefore, the airlines know that they can raise the prices and people will have to pay the price or they simply wont be able to travel. Make sure when you’re planning your next trip to pay close attention to the timing of said trip.

2. Frequent Flyer Miles

If you’re a person that takes trips on a regular basis rather it be for personal reasons or for work, then you should take full advantage of frequent flyer miles. Frequent flyer miles are miles that you’ve earned since you’re a regular user of a specific airline. These are to be thought of as ‘rewards’ for using that particular airlines services on a regular basis. Often times travelers will forget that they’ve accumulated these miles and instead of using them for a free flight, they’ll just purchase tickets without thinking. If you’re an individual that travels on a regular basis then be sure to keep track of your accumulated flyer miles. If you are planning on using a specific airline, such as Luftansa for international travel or Delta for domestic, check out their sites to get signed up for their frequent flyer programs. They are free for sign up, and and only can benefit you in the long run!

3. Discount Sites

Sites like Orbitz are very useful and should be used by anyone that wants to make sure that they’re saving as much money as possible on their next flight. These sites categorize your tickets and compare the prices in real time to ensure that you’re getting the best price. However, there are many of these ticket sites and you should make sure to research all of them to ensure that you’re getting the best deal possible. Also, pay attention to the seats. Just because a ticket is dirt cheap doesn’t mean that the seats are great.

4. Airport Shopping and Comparison

This is really a no brainer, but many people forget to shop at different airports. Many times you’ll find that there are many airports that will offer you the same flight but at very different prices. Just as you would shop in a store for different brand products, make sure to shop for different airlines and be sure to find the best bang for your buck!

5. Flexibility

These is a step in which only really applies to people that are traveling for personal reasons. The more flexible you are with your flight dates and times, the more money you can expect to save. If you have no set date for your trip, then simply plug in different dates and times into the options on discount sites to see if you can get a cheaper flight at a later or sooner date. Prices of airfare really changes from day to day and from hour to hour. If you’re flexible with time, then the prices will be flexible as well!

There’s always that one life-long travel dream: the one destination or excursion that tempts us to quit our day jobs, fill up our backpacks, collect our life savings, and head for the nearest airport, never to be heard from again. That is, until we run out of money and come crawling back, groveling for our old jobs. Doesn’t sound ideal to you? Me neither. Instead, why not consider these next three tips that could help get you on that trip of a lifetime without cleaning out your savings and forcing you to quit your job?
Consider a New Savings Account

Many folks today have become wary of changing financial institutions, or complacent when it comes to searching for the best savings account options and rates. If you do just a little bit of research though, you could find out just how much more you could potentially earn on your savings if you were to open a high yield savings account online through a different institution.
Finding a great high interest rate savings account is as easy as perusing the internet and using one of the many account comparison websites available today. This can earn you literally hundreds or thousands of extra dollars with your current savings over the course of just a couple years or less depending on your savings and an account’s APY.
Forego the Next Smaller Trip, or Two

I know it seems like a crazy and drastic idea, but by eliminating a smaller in-country trip or two, you could save hundreds or thousands of dollars to put towards that big one you’ve been dreaming of. While it may seem hard, skipping smaller trips for undoubtedly bigger opportunities, will be definitely worth it in the long run.
Secretly Skimp on Something(s), Anything(s)

Essentially akin to smart budgeting, figuring out a thing or two that you can live without for the next year can save you more than you realize. Think about it in these terms: saving a measly 5 dollars a day, on whatever, anything of your choice, equals an extra $1,825 in one year. That’s at least one plane ticket, easily. Now you do the math. If you can save just a little more than that each day, that’s some pretty big savings – maybe even two tickets?
If you’ve got a life-long travel destination or destinations in mind, it’s important to know that you absolutely can make reaching them a reality. All it takes is a bit of whimsy, some simple tips, and a frugality that should be easy to come by with that white sand beach in mind.

When you travel you need to know where the savings are. Don’t hop in your vehicle with no knowledge of your destination and the possible savings you could obtain. A smart traveler is always informed on the best ways to save on accommodations. The following gives 5 great ways to stay ahead of the masses and save big.

1. Use Coupons

Some travel guides actually have coupons. Lots of people don’t even know that these exist, but they do. The nearest rest stop in the city that you are residing in will usually have some brochures. They are free booklets that contain coupons on hotels. This is sort of a tricky situation, however, because you can only obtain the book when you are in the city. This can be a great spur of the moment saver if you have not made any reservations elsewhere. Always be mindful on the location and the expiration dates. Some coupons may not apply to the entire hotel chain. It may only be for a certain hotel in town.

2. Shop for Online Deals

The better way to acquire some guaranteed savings is through the Internet. This is no surprise as this is how everyone conducts business these days. Some people may assume that it is no different than calling and making a reservation. People that think this way are dead wrong. There is always a cheaper way to do everything. Wise travelers know this and flock to the Internet to put what they know in action. There are all kinds of sites that give travelers deals on 4 star hotels. It’s not written in stone and there is no one site that has better deals than another. It is all about testing the waters and checking these sites on a regular basis. Sometimes (many times!) people hop up and go on trips just because they have found an unbelievable unbeatable deal.

3. Call and Ask for Discounts

Don’t be afraid to ask for discounts if you don’t see any advertised online. It’s always better to ask than assume. There may be a special promotion specific to a certain location. You could be missing out on a serious discount if you fail to ask about it. This is why it pays to call. The internet is a good place to find discounts, but this isn’t the only place. Sometimes it takes communication with an actual person to find the savings. A little begging and pleading can go much further with a live person. Ask for the discount directly.

4. Break Out the Membership Cards

People that have credit cards can get discounts at certain hotels. AAA card carrying members also have the ability to get some discounted rates. Be mindful of this when you travel. Don’t let those cards lie dormant in your wallet because you are not informed. Take all of your cards out of your wallet and visit their websites before you travel. Look for cards with discounts and then search for these discounted locations in your destination area.

5. Stay at the Cheaper Hotels

Every traveler knows that there are some times when they just can’t catch a break. It just seems like there are no discounts in town on (decent) 4 star hotels. That is when you start looking for the cheaper hotels. There is always something is town that is not exactly what you want, but it is within your price range. Don’t be afraid to take the cheaper hotel even if it is only for a night. You can save money on the first night and go elsewhere the next day if you don’t like it.

Affordable long-term parking can be a tough thing to find if you’re looking to travel for an extended period of time. You want to find a parking lot that will keep your car safe at all hours of the day while you are away and but won’t break the bank. Here are some general tips to utilize when trying to find the perfect long-term parking lot for your vehicle during your traveling.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way, it is not recommended to park your vehicle at the airport you are leaving from. These terminals normally charge an extremely outrageous amount of money per day and are generally only considered “short-term” parking, meaning that if you leave your vehicle there for more than a week’s time, there may be problems (thought to be abandoned, etc.). Of course, each policy depends on the airport.

One of the best places to park your vehicle for an extended period of time is at a lot right outside the airport. While you may be thinking that many of these are just as expensive as within an airport, most are significantly cheaper. The added benefit of many of these lots is that they offer 24-hour security, so you know that your vehicle will always be kept an eye on. Rates are typically as low as $3 a day and get as high as $15, but this will fluctuate significantly depending on the area that you are in and in some locations, the day of the week or time of year.

While the signs may advertise similar rates, some parking lots may include hidden fees in their terms (such as payments for transportation to the terminal or after-hour premiums) and if you don’t read them carefully enough, you may get overcharged. Look for deals on different parking lots by visiting their websites. Many offer special first-day rates as well as weekly and monthly specials. Some even allow for the ability for you to print a coupon that can be used to compound the discount. Search around online instead of just picking the first listing out of a phone book.

Make sure you are aware of their transit policies (i.e. how often they shuttle people back and forth between the lot and the terminal as well as how late, or early, the shuttle runs). As anyone who has done it can tell you, hiking a mile after a long flight at nine o’clock at night because you can’t get ahold of the shuttle is arguably not worth the savings from not parking at the terminal. You may also want to consider the transit accommodations. While it may not be a big deal in Los Angeles, if you’re using a Seattle airport parking service, you may not want to be waiting in the rain for the shuttle to take you to the airport.

The next major consideration is safety, both for you and your vehicle. A well-lit lot, full-fencing, and a 24-hour security presence is great, however depending on your situation, you may not need it. Are you a single man with a low-value car who travels during daylight hours? If so, you may not find value in all of the security. If you are a family with small children, own a high-value vehicle and are expecting to fly a red-eye, obviously you may have an alternate opinion.

To save the most money when needing to park your vehicle, consider parking it at a friend’s house or simply leaving it at your home. Depending on where you live, this may be the most reasonable solution.

By utilizing the tips listed above, you can easily find the perfect long-term parking lot for your vehicle while you are traveling.

Sometimes the internet can get quite overwhelming. Throw in the fact that you want to buy a plane ticket in the mix and things can get even more crazy. You are on a budget and you have to purchase a plane ticket at the most minimal price possible, then we are really talking.

With so many options to book flights on the internet Hot Wire, Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets where do you begin? What is the cheapest?

The best travel search engine by far is Kayak.com. Kayak is so wonderful because they will compare all the major travel sites at one time so that you can choose the best route and best priced ticket. You can also compare many other things on Kayak like hotels and cars. It is a great place for one stop shopping when it comes to booking. No need to have 42 windows open on your desktop at one time.

Other ways to save lots while flying:

Pack light – If you need to check luggage and your bag weights over 50 pounds you are going to get charge a hefty fee. Overweight baggage frees are around $100 on most airlines. Pack light, take only a carry-on and you will save lots on travel.

Eat large meals before you get to the airport or after you leave – Airport food is always more expensive because they know that you are stuck there. If possible, eat your meals before you get to the airport or after you leave it. You won’t be sorry by saving all that change in your pocket.

Bring your own snacks – Same as the meals, the snack prices in the airport are ridiculous. Plan ahead by throwing snacks in your purse or backpack so that you don’t have to buy from airport vendors.

Join frequent flyer programs – If you travel often make sure you sign up for all the frequent flyer programs out there. You can easily earn free upgraded seats, entrance into lounges, and lots of other perks like snacks on the plane if you fly all the time. Not to mention a free ticket here and there.

Use ebates.com – If you end up using any of the ebates partner sites you will earn a percentage of cash back on your trip! Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, and Priceline are just some of the sites listed. Chance are after you get your fabulous price match on Kayak you can click through ebates and save quite a bit just by getting cash back. Plus, they are no hassle. They will just send you a fabulous check in the mail after you’ve earned money!

Have someone drop you off and pick you up – Airport parking can be expensive. If you can have a friend drop you off and then someone else pick you up.

Book smart – If you find a good price for the love book it! Those prices will fluctuate in hours! Don’t wait in an hour or minutes it might go up!
