Christmas In St. Louis

Have you ever considered a family vacation during Christmas time?   Many people travel all over at Christmas to enjoy holiday happenings all over the country and all over the world.  Perhaps one of the most popular holiday vacation spots is enjoying the holiday displays at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  Though I have heard that Disney World is beautiful at Christmas, my family and I will not be traveling to Disney World, instead we will be traveling to my hometown in St. Louis, Missouri.  St. Louis has a wide array of holiday activities including some beautiful light displays, great food, fun for the kids and a wide range of things to do.  If you are looking for a new and different holiday destination I highly recommend taking a trip to St. Louis and enjoying the sites and sounds of of the city.  Here are some fun holiday spots to enjoy while visiting The Gateway to the West:

Missouri Botanical Garden: Absolutely breathtaking at anytime of the year the holidays are no exception.  Visit the Garland Express 2011  and enjoy scenes of “the gifting tree” that portray a celebration of all the ways that trees bless us.  There are eight model trains that are active through gorgeous holiday landscapes decorated beautifully with gifts, and more than 500 poinsettias as well as other beautiful flowers to celebrate the season!

Holiday Pops Spectacular: It’s always fun to visit Powell Symphony hall to enjoy the sites and sounds of the old concert hall.  This holiday season on December 22nd you can see Compton Heights Concert Band along with organist Cameron Carpenter for this spectacular holiday event.  This concert will be a combination of classic Christmas music and holiday tunes.

Holiday Light Displays:  The light displays in St. Louis are abundant and wonderful!  You will not be disappointed when taking your family to enjoy some or all of the beautiful holiday light displays in and around the St. Louis area.  Drive your car or take a Carriage Ride at Tillis Park.  I grew up going to this one and it just gets better and better every year!

View photos of Wild Lights at the St. Louis Zoo after visiting many of the best zoos in the country I still think the St. Louis Zoo deserves a place as one of the best.  The St. Louis zoo is still free during the day, but at night for a minimal fee you can enjoy beautiful lights and the sights and sounds of the animals at the zoo.  If you are looking for other great St. Louis area displays you can find more details about them here.

The Magic House: If you have small or elementary aged children The Magic House is a destination you should not pass up.  This St. Louis Children’s Museum is fun for the whole family and will keep your kiddos busy all day long.  During the holiday season you can visit the holiday light display put on by The Magic House as well as participate in other great holiday time activities.

The St. Louis Science Center:  Another fabulous spot that you should not miss while you are in town is the St. Louis Science Center.  Much like the zoo, this is another great free St. Louis hot spot that can spark young minds to imagine and explore.  This holiday season visit the St. Louis Science Center’s OMNIMAX theater and view Santa Vs. The Snowman.
